Dunedin Weekly SS Competition

Girls rugby is organised by the ORFU in conjunction with the ORFU Women's Advisory Group.

Playing Times

Wednesdays after school with a 4.00pm start.

Competition Format

Round robin. A minimum number of players per team is agreed upon, at the start of each season. This is often 12 a-side but more is encouraged if both teams have more players available. Non-contestable scrums must be played (NZRFU directive). The final is sometimes played on a Saturday if both teams are agreeable.

Length of Season

Dependant on the number of teams entered:

2006 - Term 2 Week 2 - Wednesday 10th May until Term 3 Week 5 - Wednesday 9th August.

Fixture Duration Times

Games are 25min each way.

Costs

No team entry fee nor $250 team insurance levy is charged as long as a team list is returned. Please add additional players during the season by completing another player registration before players play and sending to ORFU.

Draw

Weekly draws with ground allocations will be emailed to schools each week and available on Otago rugby website.

Default Policy

Schools must advise the following by 12 noon on the day preceding the scheduled fixture:

  1. Opposition School (Teacher in charge of rugby or sports coordinator)
  2. Dick Haigh at Otago Rugby who will advise referee.

Inter-Schools

These need to be advised to the ORFU (Dick Haigh) at least two weeks prior to the scheduled date. Games will then be included in the official ORFU weekly draw and referees will be appointed.

Player Registration Forms

All players must complete a NZRU Player Registration Form prior to the season commencing. ORFU will distribute these with appropriate instructions.

Otago SS Events - College Days

Organised by the Womens Advisory group of the Otago SS Rugby Council in conjunction with the ORFU, usually at country locations this allows the more isolated country teams who don't have a regular competition to have competitive involvement. Most teams play four 20min games against different opposition. No scores are kept.

For 2006 the tournaments are planned at:
Alexandra - 14th May
Balclutha - 28th May
Dunedin - 25th June
Tapanui - 30th July

Girls Festival of Rugby (formerly South Island 1st XV Tournament)
An open entry tournament which is played in Oamaru each year. It is played on a similar basis to the Junior Rugby tournaments and to avoid clashes with other sports is played over three days at the end of Term Two (3rd - 5th July, 2006).

Pre-Season Seven a Side Tournament
This year the ORFU are running what they propose will be an annual pre-season seven a side tournament at Mosgiel on Sunday 2nd April. This will include a secondary school girls division. Further details will be advised.
