Dunedin Saturday Competition

The stronger secondary school teams are entered in the DCA (Dunedin Cricket Association) grades which play on Saturday afternoon. Second grade starts on artificials in October with the other grades following on as soon as enough wickets are available. The draw organised by the DCA. Third form players in term one usually continue to play for their club from the previous year unless secondary schools choose them for teams in DCA grades.

Playing Times

DCA games on Saturday starting times are:
Second grade - 11.30am
Third grade and below - noon

Length of Season

Confirmed each year.
Early October - December (finish last Saturday before Xmas).
Mid Jan - end of March.

Costs

In April each year the DCA send out to each club and school costs concerning each grade. Teams are charged a wicket preparation cost and this is returned to the owners of wickets. Therefore a school that prepares a wicket will receive a payment.

Draw

DCA draws are faxed to schools on Tuesdays. Points are published in the ODT.

Junior (Year 9 and 10) Boys Knockout Tournament

Held in Junior Tournament Week in Term 4.  Entry forms sent to schools in advance outlining format.
Dates 2006: Monday 20th November - Thursday 23rd November.</>

National Events

First XI's are eligible for the Gillette Cup - the National Knockout Tournament. Entry forms are sent out from NZ Cricket via the Otago Cricket in Term Four. Entries are taken and a draw for Zone 8 is normally completed by the end of Term Four for Term One of the following year. Otago Cricket is responsible for the Gillette Cup draw.

NZCT SS Junior Boys National Cricket Competition (Year 9) is played over a cricket season as opposed to a calendar year. The aim is to determine an Otago/Southland winner by Xmas. The winner progresses to a National final with seven other teams in March (Summer Tournament Week) of the following year. As with Gillette Cup most expenses are met by NZ Cricket.
